Hi I am Dave Hughes a specialist personal trainer and founder of Fit Camp UK Ltd. I am also creator of Activ8 Fitness Ltd which is my personal training business. I have proven to be one of the most qualified and experienced Boot Camp Instructors and Advanced Personal Trainers in the Midlands area.
I have been at the forefront of the UK’s health and fitness industry for over 15 years. I have a reputation for being an inspirational and passionate health and fitness trainer, I hold Certificates from some of the most prestigious personal training academies in the world.
I combine my knowledge and experience of intensive physical training from boxing, martial arts, kick boxing, circuits, endurance, ultra events and mud race obstacle events.
I have also studied and worked extensively in the field of Corrective Exercise, Strength and Sports Conditioning, Exercise Therapy and I have Premier Masters.
My passion for fitness grew and I noticed there was a gap in the market for one to one personal training and after investing my time, money I went out to study in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K – I gained my qualifications and decided to establish my own personal training company and now run/own Fit Camp UK Ltd
I then noticed the market was changing around 9 years ago – people were watching their money and starting to get bored with gyms – taking your money and not bothered if you turn up or even get results!!!
I wanted to set up a fitness bootcamp group training company – where members could train with a personal trainer and have the option to train 2-6 sessions per week at a fraction of the cost of personal training.
Our members were getting amazing results at a fraction of the cost – so I set up Fit Camp UK Ltd
We are a Non Military GET FIT, LOSE FAT AND HAVE FUN – FITNESS BOOT CAMP. We offer an unique and individual approach which is proven to work by encouraging rather than intimidating people – and we get results fast… with just you and my team of Fit Camp UK Instructors the embarrassment is gone and you are given unbroken attention and supervision – so you reach the goals you are aiming for in a fraction of the time.
I have always been passionate about sports and fitness, for the majority of my life i have participated in fitness and been active and believes in living a healthy active lifestyle and will continue this through his life.
I have also battled with my weight a couple of times and has ballooned up 3-4 stone to 16.5 – 17 stone. I was exercising – but making the wrong choices in the kitchen – so hence the weight going up.
I had low self esteem, felt depressed lacked confidence, lacked energy – does this sound familiar ?? Exercise and Nutrition is for life – we eat crap – we feel crap!!! Everything in Moderation which I will mention in a bit. Everybody needs a cheat day – but we tend to eat and drink well Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then let slip Thursday – Sunday!!! You cannot out train an unhealthy diet!!!
I feel that people just need a bit of guidance and encouragement for them to reach their goals, there is so much wrong information out there, people get confused on what is good and what isn’t. With my approach I believe things like food and drink in moderation! As you can see Moderation is a big word and most people will recognize some of the below?
What is MODERATION???
M issing meals (i.e. breakfast)
O ver eating later in the evening
D rinking too much of the wrong things (alcohol, caffeine or fizzy pop)
E nergy (lack of energy due to inactivity & wrong food choices)
R estless (not enough quality sleep due to lifestyle)
A qua (not drinking quality enough water)
T akeaways (eating more than 1 x week)
I ndigestion (eating too quick)
O besity (due to all the processed foods and lack of exercise or too many carbohydrates)
N o (being able to say no to unhealthy meals or too many nights out)
I am an expert in strength sports performances, weight training, body sculpturing, corrective exercise specialist, nutrition and weight management, boxing, kickboxing padwork, circuits, running, 10k’s half marathon, marathons, 12 and 24 hour hour ultra runs, 10-20k mud obstacle races, core and stability balance trainer, lower back specialist. These are all things I offer on a 1-1 or small group basis
My aim is to help you make a positive and permanent lifestyle change, in a fun and social environment, encouraging fitness and health to become part of your way of life.

So a quick bit about my past.
I started out as a pretty “large” child, I was the one who always accidentally on purpose forgot my sports kit at school or had the fake injury letters to avoid doing PE. I absolutely hated anything that involved any sort of physical activity. This went on for years until I decided that the army was the right career path for me. So I started to train myself and went from fat and unfit to … slightly not as fat and a little bit fitter. I passed my fitness tests to join and started my basic training at the age of 16 in 2009.
Once I had started my basic training realised that maybe fitness wasn’t all that bad and that I strangely enjoyed it. Now I could go on for ages , but I doubt anyone is really that interested in my life so summarised…
I served 5 years in the army and I deployed to Kenya, Cyprus, Egypt, Dubai and Afghanistan. I trained to be a physical training instructor and represented my regiment in tug of war, discus and cross country. I trained my regiments cross country team and was the team lead. I have competed in events over 18 miles carry 20+kg .Circuit training was pretty much part of daily life in the army. also trained to be a mountain leader, sports diver and I’m also a rescue diver.
I left the army in 2014 and started instructing at Fit camp UK 2 weeks later.
I now work for Fit Camp UK, Instructing at the morning and evening classes at all of the locations. I like to keep my classes fun as I believe that people work harder when they are having fun.
Now if anyone really wants to know anything else about me , then just ask me at the classes.

Hi, my name is Chris, and one way or another I’ve been into sport and fitness since being at school, although it was only in my mid 20’s that I started to really mix up my training and explore different types of fitness and training.
I really enjoy running, and have taken part in several marathons, many half marathons, Ultra 24 Hour Runs.
Also over the last few years have started doing a lot of the ‘mud runs’ that have popped up.
I’ve also recently started to do Triathlons, which means I’ve had to adapt my training to incorporate lots of swimming and cycling!
I have a real passion for fitness, and this eventually led me on to completing my Level 3 Personal Training qualification which I obtained around 3 years ago.
During this time, I’ve trained people with different needs and requirements, ranging from general fitness improvements and weight loss to getting peoples fitness up as they are joining the army.
When it comes to my sessions at Fit Camp UK, I like to keep people guessing, so no session will ever be the same! I like to keep the sessions fun, but this doesn’t mean they will be easy!
I’m really enthusiastic about fitness and I hope this comes across during the sessions and inspires you to meet your own personal goals.
If anyone wants to know anything else, or wants any advice of your own personal fitness goals, please let me know.

In some way you could say I’ve always been pretty active.
I swam for my school, competed in netball tournaments, hockey and the girls football team to name a few, even though I hated athletics I loved team games….but, my biggest passion is dancing.
I danced my whole life, from 4 years old. I loved it…if I wasn’t at school, I was at the studio, either teaching or being taught. It was a huge part of my life and I’m fairly certain it is what has sewn the seed for the love of training I have today!
18 years on, I broke my foot…in 2 places. This meant I couldn’t dance for months!! It sucked…like really sucked!! Shortly after my foot was fixed, I became pregnant with my little boy and sort of used it as an excuse to eat and be a little lazy!! Which meant I gained “a little” weight.
Life became a little too hectic for me to dance again and I focused on being a Mom. Then when my boy was around 18 months old, I saw a picture of myself and decided enough was enough…so I sorted myself out and began different types of training including Zumba and the gym… but I quickly got bored of as neither offered much variety. But back to being a kid, even with all of my dancing, playing netball and swimming etc and generally never really sitting down as a kid,
I’ve always struggled with my weight, I have been the butt of many a fat joke in my time… so I understand how hard it can be…but I’ve learned that my challenges with my weight just mean I push myself to train harder!!
Training and instructing are both things I’ve thought about before but never thought I’d be good enough for it… then I found Fit Camp UK!!
It literally changed my life…I love all of the members, the Instructors are all fantastic, I’ve made some amazing friends for life and I can’t get enough of the training. I had results so much faster than any other type of training I’ve done, and more than anything…I enjoy every single session…
One day Dave said to me “We’re opening an instructor academy, I think you should do it…you’d make a great trainer”. Hearing that from someone who I had a huge amount of respect for as a trainer himself, cemented in my mind what I wanted to do.
So here I am, a Fit Camp UK Instructor and soon to be Personal Trainer and loving every second of instructing. I love the feeling that I’m helping people achieve their goals of feeling happier, healthier, fitter and more confident and genuinely making a difference to their lives.
I don’t plan on stopping there, I plan to keep on learning new things and hopefully do so in more specialised areas, so I can provide the best possible training to whoever I’m working with, and having fun while doing it obviously!

My name is Simon Smith and all my friends call me Smithy. I’ll let you decide what you call me. Although I was a fat kid, my Dad still calls me fat boy;
I always enjoyed doing sports and being active. As a kid I swam, played football and occasionally played a bit of cricket. But I preferred to kick or head the ball and cricket balls are really hard. As I got older I joined the gym and started getting into the gym environment of lifting weights. However, I sound found out that lifting weights only got you fit to lift weights and not a lot else so I decided to get into more functional and dynamic training routines.
I’ve had numerous jobs but I always made time to train and go to the gym as being fit and healthy just makes sense. The human body is a brilliant bit of kit and therefore needs to be looked after by thrashing it with training and eating healthy. Anyway 8 years ago I decided to make my hobby my job and I did a Personal Training Diploma, through Premier and got to work The first 5 years of my career was spent working in the gym and for the last 3 years I’ve worked freelance. Throughout my time in Personal Training I’ve worked with and had great success with clients wanting to achieve the following:
Join the Armed Forces,
Coming back from injury,
On going health problems.
And I’ve also written specialised food plans relating to both allergy and religious requirements.
Oh and I’ve trained small groups of people before (THAT’S PROBABLY REALLY IMPORTANT WITH RELATION TO THE WHOLE FIT CAMP THING)
With regards to my own fitness achievements. I’ve taken on, and passed, numerous physical challenges. Some of which were pretty hard. I’ve recently completed a 40-mile run for charity in the Lake District in an all right time (5 hours 40min). However, I really enjoy doing High Intensity Workouts and hill sprints as I find running to far a bit boring.
Personal Trainer (Advanced Level 3)
Sports Massage Therapy
Pre n Postnatal.
My career in the Fitness Industry has been fun and really rewarding and has given me a real passion for getting others fit and healthy. Which I aim really looking forward to doing with members of Fit Camp UK.
One more thing I’m currently studying to eventually become a Physiotherapist.
Simon Toon | Fit Camp UK Instructor – Instructor Trainer
Well, where do I start? Way back when I was nine years old I first started boxing , not being able to fight straight away I trained for two years before I was old enough to take part in competitive boxing fights. On my 11 birthday I had my first fight and from that day I never looked back. I boxed all over Great Britain for Club and Country.
All through my school years I took part in and represented my school and county in gymnastics, football, cricket and cross country running to top level. After I stopped boxing in my twenties I started coaching other boxers of all ages including our very own Mr David Hughes, bless him. From there I went on to own and run the first kickboxing club in Tamworth with fellow instructor Dave Taylor and for quite a few years trained both male and females, always getting them to train to the extreme, great years!
From there due to work and family commitments I moved away to Stafford and I stopped everything, which looking back was the start of my problems. On a holiday to America, I was not feeling well and decided to see a doctor over there, who straight away said that I had high blood pressure. It was like a train hitting me. Me? unwell? With high blood pressure? How? I’m strong and fit ? No I wasn’t. Yes I looked OK and I felt strong but it was my lifestyle!! Full stop! That’s when I realized I had to sort myself out, so I rang Dave Hughes, my best pal and he demanded I go and see him ! Which is what I did.
So for twelve months I trained at Fit Camp UK as a member & then an assistant instructor – soon realizing how much better this type of group training hooks you and get results, Dave I love you for that x
Soon the results started for me, a stone just flew off then the food and once I understood how my body worked with Dave’s help it was easy I went from 14 .7 stone down to fighting fit 11 , 7 lbs and yes blood pressure is superb , so now it’s my turn I’m a advanced Bootcamp instructor and just finishing my level 3 personal trainer course , so if you need motivating well your at the right place , I eat motivation for lunch it’s what I was made to do from day one , group training works trust me I’ve got the medal!!
I also now run the Xtreme Fit Camp UK training on a Sunday morning up at our base at the West Midlands Water Ski Centre, near Kingsbury in Warwickshire
Rich Hill | Fit Camp UK Instructor
Hi, I’ve been involved in the fitness industry for just over a year now. However fitness has always been a massive part of my life, as a youngster I did a lot of judo and karate in my teen I moved more into rugby. From about the age of 14 I decided that I was going to join the armed forces when I left school.
At age 19 I started my basic training into the Royal Engineers, after the 12 weeks of what I thought was fairly arduous training (I was yet to know what was to come) I passed out of basic training achieving ‘Best Recruit’ feeling very proud I went on to complete my combat engineering course which included demolitions, mine field clearance, bridge building to name a few it was during this time I became more and more interested in pushing myself more physically, I wanted to see how hard and far I could go. I decided to volunteer for the All Arms Commando Course, after nearly 18 months in Army I was finally at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines pushing myself further and harder than I ever thought possible!! I quickly realised with the right mentality and a lot of determination the body can do amazing things 12 weeks later after lots of sleep deprivation hundreds of miles of ‘yomping’ in full kit I was finishing the Commando course with a green beret on my head, I thought the hard bit was over as it turns out once you’ve earned it you have to work even hard to prove you really deserve it!! During my time at 59 Commando Squadron I completed numerous exercises including Arctic warfare training in Norway enduring temperatures as low as -62 and completing ice breaker drills (skiing into a hole cut into a frozen lake) in complete contrast to this I also took part in exercises in Africa, I don’t know what is worse extreme cold or extreme heat!!! My most challenging time though has to be the 2 operational tours of Afghanistan, it was tough, and it was emotional at times but I can safely say it was the best time I had in the Army.
While I was serving I started competing in Power Lifting; this is a combination of 3 maximum weight compound lifts, the back squat, bench press, and deadlift. I initially started power lifting to increase my strength for rugby however it turns out I was quite good. After 4 weeks of training I won the Army championships, going on to compete at the British Championships, and the World Championships. More recently I have started to compete in strongman events, in which I have just qualified to compete at England’s strongest man.
In my new career as a personal trainer I’m thoroughly enjoying helping people achieve their goals, and I’m really looking forward to helping you!! I look forward to meeting you all at Fit Camp UK.
Dom Hogg | Fit Camp UK Instructor
Hi ! my name’s Dom & I’d like to help whoever is willing to come along to my sessions, i’ll start by telling you a little about myself. As a kid I always struggled with my weight & was a bit curvy around the edges but at the tender age of 16 I joined the Army & my extra weight went from then I did fitness because I had to & never really had a passion for it all though I was naturally fit, because of this I was then pushed towards boxing through the Army & as my boxing took off I had a new found love for fitness.
So now I’m not in the Army anymore I do still work closely with them in the recruitment process, ensuring candidates that wish to join are fit enough through a set of physical fitness assessments so need to worry about any type of military style lesson as i’ll have got rid of that out of my system, however don’t think my sessions will be easy we’ll still be getting a good sweat on by the end of it & of course with a few laughs through out.
From being a PTI (Physical Training Instructor) when in the Army & with a huge passion & love for fitness health & well being my first job I started when out was working in gyms around the Midlands, I absolutely loved everything about the work it suited me perfectly until it was payday so because of this I had to find work that paid meeting my requirements. So this meant being a truck driver & keeping my fitness up was a very difficult thing to do so I empathises with you guys that have work commitments but hopefully you see that if I can do it then so can you I want to help you guys so just because the session has ended I’m more than happy to give you tips tricks & hints to get around your problems that are blocking your goals.
Anyway I’ve been training people from all walks of life, helping them attain all types of goals for a few years now & wish to get on board with Mr.Hughes & pass my skills & knowledge on to you guys, I look forward to meeting you all & having some good sessions with everyone.
